Principal’s Letter Faith Reflection
Faith is th realization of what is hoped for and evidence of things not seen/La fe es la garantia de los bienes que so esperan, la plena certeza de las realidades que no se van. - Hebrews/Hebreos 11:1
“A first essential setting for learning hope is prayer,” Pope Benedict XVI wrote in his encyclical on hope that we touched on last week. They go hand in hand; we can’t be pilgrims of hope during this Jubilee year without prayer.
Prayer comes in many forms; it can be rote, communal, or simply sitting somewhere quietly. We can also pray through poetry. While we can turn to Scripture for poetry (The Song of Songs, Book of Wisdom and the Psalms are among some of the most well read biblical poetry) today we will turn to Emily Dickinson’s poem “‘Hope’ is the thing with feathers.”
“Hope” is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul
And sings the tune without the words
And never stops at all
And sweetest in the Gale is heard
And sore must be the storm
That could abash the little bird
That kept so many warm
I've heard it in the chillest land
And on the strangest sea
Yet, never, in extremity,
It asked a crumb of me."
Showcasing SHA talent: Jonathon in 5th is filled with hope as he draws us a bird with feathers.
