Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. 2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what is God’s will—God’s good, pleasing and perfect will./Por tanto, hermanos y hermanas míos, les ruego por la misericordia de Dios que se presenten ustedes mismos como ofrenda viva, santa y agradable a Dios. Romans 12: 1-2
Welcome back. It has been a good first week—if we don’t factor in the hot weather. Like last year there is a special theme for this school year. The theme for this new school-parish year is “Be Transformed/sé transformado.” To be transformed is to go through a change. It often can be dramatic and profound in form, but at its basic it is to move beyond where you are.
Being transformed is a decision that gives us a different perspective, broadening how we see things, opening us up to new ways of being. To this end the parish will be offering a variety of events and speakers throughout this coming year to help us navigate these waters. In the meantime we don’t have to hold off starting our work of transformation. This advice author Kurt Vonnegut wrote in a letter to a high school class in 2006 is something to consider: Practice any art, music, singing, dancing, acting, drawing, painting, sculpting, poetry, fiction essays, reportage, no matter how well or badly, not to get money and fame, but to experience becoming, to find out what’s inside you, to make your soul grow.”
Showcasing SHA talent: Stay tuned to find out what this random chalk art of a dinosaur turns into as this year progresses.
