Parent Letter Faith Reflection
Have you ever gotten impatient waiting in line? Or in traffic? Or for a package to arrive? Have you ever gotten impatient with others? Do you loose your patience when you ask your kids to do something and the response back is “Do I have to?” When I read this Word on Fire article last week (21 Oct 2019) about adopting a new attitude for evangelization patience and charity were at the heart of the story. Drawing on these fruits of the Spirit the author was able to turn a very frustrating encounter with her young child into something much more fruitful for all involved which could be applied to other situations, such as evangelization.
Whether you are trying to spread the gospel message or trying to get your kids to do something you’ve asked them to do, patience and charity can go a long way to diffusing a challenging situation resulting in a much more productive and less stressful encounter.
Our 7th grade essayist shares his impatience with our bishop as he also reflects on how this situation could possibly be changed in the future to make for a good encounter.
Bishop Barnes
By David B.
I admit I don’t know much about what Bishop Barnes did for his community. However, from what I have seen it would have been nice for him to visit his community more often. I know that when we were in 4th grader we tried so hard to get him to come school, but he didn’t. Even after a full year of 4th grade he still hadn’t come. I didn’t think that was fair—we were only in 4th grade and every time we sent a letter we thought he was going to come. It felt like our hard work was going into the ground. In the future maybe if he can’t visit he can write something back.
