Cesar Chavez - long-handled hoe
Today we learned about Cesar Chavez and what he fought for for the farm workers of America. One change that came about was the removal of the short-handled hoe as a tool for the migrant workers. The students had to move the Cheerio seeds with their short handled hoes. They experienced how difficult it is to work when you are stooped for such a long time. This was just one minute - farm workers did this 12-14 hours a day in hot weather. Then they tried it again with long-handled hoes. Much better!
