Bio
Hello, my name is Emelin Tahhan. I have served as the Preschool Director at Sacred Heart Academy since the 2016-2017 academic year. I am passionate about the field of early child education. I graduated from California State University, Fullerton with a bachelor degree in Child and Adolescent Development. I also have my AA degree in Social and Behavioral Sciences and an AA degree in Language Arts and Communication.
I am a certified catechist for the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd level I for children 3 to 5 years old. The CGS is a Montessori curriculum approach that encourages children to wonder about our Catholic faith and traditions by reinforcing and developing a deeper relation with God.
As a strong Catholic Christian, I believe that children have an innate connection with God, because they come from him. Our job as an adult is to assist and facilitate their relationship in their early age of life to build a strong base for their faith journey.
As a preschool teacher my favorite scripture is Matthew 18:1-5, when the disciples asked Jesus about the kingdom of heaven and He said “Amen, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven”
I witness God’s wisdom daily by his great request to be like children. They are innocent, natural to forgive and forget about it quick. They are hungry to learn. They are amazed with the simplest things to the biggest gift. They are joy. They trust and believe. They love hugs and affection.
In our preschool program, we bring God to our children’s level and understanding. A God that is between us and we relate to him in our daily routines. We pray “talk” to God during our day because we know He is always with us. We celebrate our church traditions and we practice our liturgical calendar in our classroom. We attend mass as a whole class once a month.
Personally, I love Sacred Heart Academy / The Holy Name of Jesus community. They have welcomed me and my family with open arms. Our two kids attend school here and my husband and I are very thankful with all the teacher and staff members who have partnered with us to help them develop in all areas of their life.
