Parent Letter Faith Reflection

Two weeks I used Fr. Bob Miller’s description of the Beatitudes being like a topographical map.  A couple weeks ago I picked up a book because its title—A Map of Life—reminded me of Fr. Miller’s analogy.  As we begin Lent I liked the idea of having a ‘road map’ as we journey out into the desert of reflection and prayer.  A road map helps us see the bigger picture and shows us those roads we need to take to get to our destination.  In 4th grade we took the three stages (adapt, change, grow) a dragonfly went through in a poem we read and paired these with the three things we give extra attention to during Lent (prayer, fasting, almsgiving) to give us a road map for Lent.  As we pray we will adapt to our new Lenten surroundings, we will change through fasting from things during these coming weeks, and we will grow by giving to others.  This is our road map for Lent in 4th grade and as we follow it we know this road map will help us reach our Easter destination.

Our 7th graders will continue to give us a road map to follow by telling us how we can be merciful and forgiving during these 40 days.

How Do I Evangelize and Show Mercy?

                                                                                  by Jake

I can evangelize when I am out on my daily life; for example, when I am at the store, a friend or relative’s house, or the football field.  I can do show mercy by asking someone if they are okay when they get hurt on the football field.  Also, by speaking about the Lord and having faith with friends and family I am evangelizing.  I feel evangelizing is an important part of being a good athlete.

Showing mercy is, I feel, a part of my daily life.  For example, if someone says something mean I forgive the person.  Forgiveness, to me, means showing someone I am not mad any more.  I feel good when I forgive someone because I am being merciful.

Stations of the Cross begin this Friday, March 3rd at Olive from 5:30-6:00.  Each week a different ministry hosts, and of course, that includes Sacred Heart Academy.  The Knights of Columbus have their fish fry immediately following the Stations each week.

The statue of the Immaculate Heart of Mary that travels around the world will be at our Olive location on Thursday, March 9th from 2:00-9:00.  Please see the parish bulletin this coming weekend for the Mass time and other details.

Our canned food total from our school Masses during February was 8 bins.  Thank you for helping others.

 Thank you.  Mrs. Alhadef
