Faith Reflection: Mercy—Love in action

The Gospel from this past Sunday about the Pharisee and the Tax Collector was a parable on mercy and humility.  I’m looking to the humility side of the parable this week as I introduce Arian’s essay.  The simple things Adrian mentions for how he evangelizes speaks to the same humbleness the tax collector had; neither Adrian or the tax collector brag about how many wonderful things they have done, but simply show God’s love in the small and simple things.  And we know it was the humble one who Jesus tells us went home justified.

Mercy Essay

I evangelized Jesus over the summer by going to my Great Grandma (Mama Coco).  I also tried to clean the earth by recycling.  I did a lot of camping to recognize God’s gifts.  I tried to help as many people as I could.  Those were all my deeds I did to evangelize Jesus.

There are many ways to be merciful in our parish and put love into action in simple ways just as Adrian did over the summer.  Would you like to visit the sick?  You may first be thinking of Mrs. Lawson who is recovering nicely from her surgery and certainly would welcome your cards, but there are many others in our parish community who are confined, sick or suffering and could use with a friendly face and short visit.  Contact Deacon Mike Bellinder at the parish office if you are interested in visiting the sick in our [email protected].

Another humble way to serve the needs of those close by is the S.H.A.R.E. Ministry.  This ministry feeds the hungry on Saturdays at 3pm at the First United Methodist Church.  Several local churches rotate Saturdays with Holy Name of Jesus providing meals on the first Saturday of the month.  Volunteers provide food from home and/or help serve.  If you can cook, serve, or cook and serve contact Ashley Bean through the parish office.  I’m always looking for opportunities to bake so I will be contacting her to see if cooking includes baking.

This Thursday, of course, is Cinema for the Soul night upstairs in the parish hall at 7p.  Come join Miss Morrison and others to watch Drop Box.  Popcorn provided.

Check my tweets—@naditaAnne—for info on the Mass to celebrate the recent canonization of Saint Elizabeth of the Trinity on Sunday, 6 November, 2016 in Alhambra, Calif.  Archbishop Gomez will be the main celebrant.

   Thank you,  Mrs. Alhadef
