Principal's Letter Faith Reflection

Hope is definitely not the same thing as optimism. It is not the conviction that something will turn out well but the certainty that something makes sense, regardless of how it turns out.—Vaclav Havel

On Christmas Eve Pope Francis ushered in the Jubilee Year of Hope opening the Holy Door at Saint Peter’s Basilica. A Jubilee year is a time of religious renewal that happens every 25 years. It is a year of conversion and forgiveness that helps us to establish a deeper connection to God. It is also a time of celebration and many will make a pilgrimage to Saint Peter’s to walk through the Holy Door. For those who can’t make it to the Vatican there will events and Holy Doors at the diocesan level that people can make a pilgrimage to throughout this Jubilee year.

To pass through the Holy Door,” Pope Francis said during the opening mass of the Extraordinary Jubilee in 2015, “means to rediscover the infinite mercy of the Father who welcomes everyone and goes out personally to encounter each of them.”

In the coming weeks there will be information in the parish bulletin about The Holy Name of Jesus being a holy site for the Jubilee Year. As we await the details we can keep Francis’ words in mind when we do walk through our local Holy Door: The Door is open, the door is open wide! There is no need to knock on the door. It is open. Come! Let us be reconciled with God, and then we will be reconciled with ourselves and able to be reconciled with one another, even our enemies. God’s mercy can do all things...Come! Jesus is the Door or Peace.
