Parent Letter Faith Reflection

Sometimes the most important thing in a whole day is the rest we take between two deep breaths, or the turning inwards in prayer for five short minutes.—Etty Hillesum

“The season of Advent means there is something on the horizon the likes of which we have never seen before," author Jan Richardson wrote, “So stay, Sit. Linger. Tarry. Ponder. Wait. Behold. Wonder. There will be time enough for running.

Angels appear throughout Scripture but they show up in force between the two infancy narratives, the likes of which had not seen before. In Luke’s account the shepherds hurry off to see this saviour the angels announce, but they go back rejoicing at seeing the new born Jesus knowing they will sit and ponder and linger with what they have just beheld.

After their time with infant Jesus the shepherds could probably tell us what Father Erik wrote in this week’s parish bulletin, “rejoicing is more than a feeling, it is the first effect of being in the presence of love/Pero la alegría es más que un sentimiento es el primer efecti de estar en la presencia del amor.”

May you all have a Merry Christmas and a wonder-filled break.

Showcasing SHA talent:  After listening to the angels announcement the shepherds might have come away from seeing the Infant with a warm smile like this snowman Lucas in 5th drew.
