So Christ himself gave some as apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers, to equip people for works of ministry so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity of faith and knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. Ephesians 4:11-13
This past Sunday was catechetical Sunday. At each mass the presider had all teachers and catechists, from both the parish and school, stand so they could be recognized and blessed by the community. As we showed our gratitude for those who serve our students it got me to thinking about others who teach yet are not teachers per se.
As much as I love baseball, I have to admit there are things about the game I don’t know and I’m grateful when I can learn more from fellow fans. I also thought of all the times I’ve gone to a home improvement store, or all the people who have taught me about baking, and even my neighbor who offers plants from her garden and helps me know how to best care for them.
Last Sunday we showed our gratitude to those who teach. Today think of how we can show our gratitude to those who teach in other ways besides a classroom setting, because, in those times when we have taught in an informal manner, we have been Christ to another.
