Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. Colossians 3:16
I think it’s safe to say that all of us here at SHA are grateful for Mr. Turner and his musical talent. For me, one of the reasons I’m grateful for his music is that music is not my passion (that’s baking) and I have a greater appreciation because of listening to him and the SHA band play every morning.
Another reason I like Mr. Turner’s music is how he sees it as ministry, as a way of helping people to engage with God. He can take what might be called a “secular” song and he claims it for God. As he has seen from playing music for many years in many settings, “You take that music and plant a flag in it. God owns that place now and when you hear that song again it puts you back in church worshiping. God is there in that music.” Surely Mr. Turner's music helps us each day to praise God and fills our hearts with gratitude.
Can’t come to morning assembly? You can find videos of Mr. Turner and the band on our school YouTube page.
Showcasing SHA talent: Natalie, 7th grade, was thankful for her lunch of apples, goldfilsh, and dinosaurs (chicken nuggets - had to ask her on that one).
