It is the beautiful task of Advent to awaken in all of us memories of goodness and thus to open doors of hope. - Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI
On Sunday nights at 7:30 our parish priests have a short lighting of the wreath prayer service on the parish’s YouTube channel (redlandscatholics). Several people have commented how they look forward to this because it’s such a nice way to end the weekend. If you haven’t already joined please consider it for these last two weeks of Advent
The Advent candles symbolize hope, faith (or love), joy, and peace. This coming Sunday, Gaudete Sunday, Latin for rejoice, the candle is rose instead of purple. This change in color helps us shift our focus from waiting to the joy that is soon to come. We remember we await the Lord not in fear, but in joyful anticipation. As Pope Francis said in one of his Gaudete Sunday homilies, “the joy of the Gospel is not just any joy. It consists in knowing one is welcomed and loved by God.”
