The biggest communication problem is that we don’t listen to understand. We listen to reply.
Earlier this year my friend’s sister posted the above quote on Instagram. Not being a good listener it stopped me in track. Like too many people I’m often formulating my response as I’m listening to someone instead of be attentive to what they are saying. We do this with each other and we can also do this with God, giving a counter argument and suggestions on how our prayer should be answered or where it should lead. This Lent consider working on spending more time listen to others, including our Lord, understanding what they are saying, and not be so ready with a response. Even when someone is doing something wrong or heading in a bad direction understanding the whole picture first will help with a response when that is needed.
Bishop Essay
by Sophie
In the U.S. there are many bishops. Most bishops retire after turning 75 years old. The diocese of San Bernardino has a bishop with the longest record of being a bishop in the U.S. My school is part of the Diocese of San Bernardino.
My bishop visited our school last year. I wish he had visited more often. He could have done more activities with us and gotten to know us better. I understand if he is busy, but it would be a great surprise if he visited us again.
If you didn't have the chance to catch A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, the movie about Mr. Rogers, Cinema for the Soul will be showing this movie this month. When I first heard about this movie I was wondering how they would bring Mr. Rogers and his classic TV show to life. Like many people I had found the show to be a bit boring. In the end I found the movie was subtly artsy, I gained a better appreciation for what he did, and I enjoyed it more than I expected, especially watching Tom Hanks portray Fred Rogers. Come join us on Thursday, March 26th at the Olive hall at 7pm.
