If today you hear the voice of the Lord harden not your hearts
One of the things I look forward to in Lent is praying the words above for the invitatory for morning prayer. As the opening part of the Liturgy of the Hours the invitatory changes throughout the year to correspond to the liturgical season, but I find myself saying this opening antiphon at other times as there’s something about it that resonates with me year round. Though I correct myself when I begin with this at other times of the year I do pause briefly on those occasions and ask myself where in my life am I tuning out God.
Though I find myself saying this Lenten antiphon at other times of the year, Lent is an especially good time to work on softening our hearts, to look God in the face and say, “Speak Lord, your servant is listening,” (1 Sam 3:10). But more than that we need to follow through with what we hear. How many times do we hear but harden our hearts and turn a deaf ear to our Lord with excuses, false humility, or out of uneasiness. Lent is a good time to look God in the eyes and ask for help with our unease, our excuses and see what can be done differently so that we can come home to Easter renewed and revitalized.
Bishop Essay
by Marlena
As we now know Bishop Barnes will be retiring. Though this could be sad for some I believe that this is just part of his journey. Overall, I think he did an excellent job.
Since the bishop is leaving a new one is coming. If they had time I would like to ask them some questions and give some comments. I would ask our retiring bishop how was his time visiting our school last year and where will he continue on after he retires? I am curious to know what he thinks his new journey will be like and I would also like thank him for everything he has done. He has helped and inspired so many people, including myself.
For our new bishop I only have one big question—will you be able to visit?
God bless,
